Two drowned, one rescued in Tennessee River, officials say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Officials in Hardin County, Tennessee say two people drowned and a third was recued in the Tennessee River on Saturday.

The bodies of two people were recovered; a third person was recued by a nearby boater, the Hardin County Fire Department said.

The department reported on social media that the incident occurred near Wolf Island in the Crump, Tennessee area.

The HCFD said it was not the result of a boating accident, contrary to earlier reports.

Searchers began a rescue operation around 4:30 in the afternoon.
