The U.S. Coast Guard rescued three people and are continuing to search for a fourth person after a fishing boat sank along the coast near Newport on Aug. 10.

On the afternoon of Aug. 10, Coast Guard Sector Columbia River was notified of a capsized fishing boat named DAS BUG near the Yaquina Bay jetty in Newport, a U.S. Coast Guard Northwest post on X said.

The 40-foot boat sank around 4 p.m., a spokesperson for the U.S. Coast Guard told The Oregonian.

The Lincoln Chronicle reported two crew members and the captain were taken to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital for treatment of hypothermia. A friend of the captain told the news outlet the crew had been in the water for 45 minutes before being rescued.

A Coast Guard helicopter searched for the fourth crew member until dusk on Aug. 10, The Oregonian reported.

As of the morning of Aug. 11, aerial searches for the fourth crew member were continuing, according to an update to the U.S. Coast Guard post on X.
