This 1988 model year car is the 85th F40 built, ordered new by fashion icon Salvatore Ferragamo and retained by just two owners since. With only 3,349 miles on the odometer and its inspection stickers still on the wheels, the car remains remarkably original, a testament to its careful stewardship over the decades.

Underlining its rarity, this F40 is an extremely rare “Plexi Sliding Window” example, one of a purported 75 built. These Series I models feature lighter doors, a minimalist cutout in place of traditional glass mechanisms, and a more race-focused interior. The specification also includes non-catalytic exhaust and non-adjustable suspension, further distinguishing it from later versions.
Recently, the car underwent a fresh full major service at Ferrari of Naples, including new cam belts, tensioner bearings, engine seals, water pump, and fuel lines, ensuring it remains in peak mechanical health. The work complements its exceptional cosmetic preservation, which still reflects Ferrari’s original factory finish and detailing.

The F40, introduced in 1987 to celebrate Ferrari’s 40th anniversary, was the last road car personally approved by Enzo Ferrari. Powered by a twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V8 producing 479 horsepower, it was capable of nearly 200 mph — performance that made it the fastest production car of its era.
With its unique combination of low mileage, rare early-production features, elite provenance, and concours-ready condition, this example stands among the finest F40s in existence. On display at The Quail, it offers a glimpse into the unfiltered vision of Ferrari’s most celebrated supercar — and the unmatched exclusivity of owning one. See it here.
