When will Delaware cool off? Here's when the heat wave will break

Summer has been blistering with heat waves, heat advisories and excessive heat warnings.

But, there could finally be a break for Delaware, according to the National Weather Service.

The First State will need to go through another batch of heat and then some rain, but cooler weather isn't that far off.

A heat advisory will be in effect for New Castle County on July 28 as temperatures continue to rise through the week, according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey.

The advisory will also be in effect in parts of suburban Philadelphia in Pennsylvania and South Jersey.

Here's what it could feel like in Delaware on July 28 with the heat index:

  • Wilmington: 100 degrees

  • Dover: 100 degrees

  • Bethany Beach: 89 degrees

When will Delaware cool off?

According to the National Weather Service, the First State is about to enter a cooler temperature period with below-normal temperatures starting Friday.

New Castle County forecast

New Castle County is under a heat advisory until Wednesday night when storms roll into the area. After showers and thunderstorms Thursday, the heat finally breaks for a pleasant weekend.

The forecast is calling for highs around 76 degrees on Friday, with a 40% chance of rain. Friday night will be cooler with temperatures dropping into the low 60s.

Saturday's forecast calls for sunny skies with highs only reaching 79 degrees. Saturday night, lows will drop to 60. Sunday will be sunny with a high around 81.

Kent County forecast

Kent County is not under a heat advisory, but it will still see heat indexes in the triple digits today and Tuesday. Wednesday will be sunny with highs near 95. On Wednesday night, storms move through the county. Through the day and night Thursday, there's a 70% chance of rain with showers and thunderstorms predicted with highs in the mid-80s and lows in the 70s.

Friday is calling for a 50% chance of rain with highs only reaching 77. Friday night, temperatures will drop to around 65.

Saturday will be sunny with highs near 80, and Saturday night will be clear with lows around 62. Sunday will be sunny with highs near 81.

Sussex County forecast

Sussex County is not under a heat advisory, but temperatures through Wednesday will be in the 90s with triple-digit heat indexes. The heat will start to break Thursday when showers and thunderstorms move through the area. Highs are expected to hit 88 with a 70% chance of precipitation.

Friday's forecast is calling for rain until 2 p.m. and then mostly cloudy with highs only reaching 79. Friday night's forecast calls for a chance of showers with lows hitting 65 degrees. Saturday will be sunny with highs around 80, and Saturday night will be clear with lows around 62. Sunday's forecast is calling for sunny skies and highs near 81.
