Love suffered the injury after the thumb banged on a helmet while taking a sack during Sunday's 30-10 preseason loss to the New York Jets. He was seen wearing tape around the thumb during Monday's practice.

Gutekunst added that he expects Love to return to practice next week and he is expected to be ready for Week 1.

"I don't this affecting him long term," Gutekunst said.
