KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Sun Fresh has officially closed its doors.
The storefront, located at 3110 Wabash Ave. in Kansas City, announced its closure on Tuesday with a sign posted to its front doors.

The sign says:
“Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control, we are no longer, at this time, able to serve the residents of this important community.
“It has always been our dream and passion to provide quality products and services in a safe, family environment.
“At this time, unfortunately, we are unable to do that.”

Prior to its closure, many community members said the store had been plagued with problems. They specifically said enough wasn’t being done to fight drug deals and prostitution there.
When FOX4 went to the store in April, its shelves were nearly empty. But some Kansas City leaders had high hopes for the store, claiming they had been working to try and keep the supermarket’s doors open.
In April, one councilwoman suggested that the city give the struggling store $1.2 million – in an effort to prevent a food desert.
The closest full-line grocery store, or supermarket, is at least a mile away from that location.
