KANSAS CITY, Mo. — From rail to table, Kansas City is now home to a cutting-edge cold storage facility that will reshape how frozen goods are shipped across North America.
It’s all thanks to a partnership between Americold and CPKC Rail.

This multi-million dollar investment marks another project in Kansas City’s growing role as a hub for transportation.
The 335,000 square foot facility was developed in collaboration with CPKC and is expected to create nearly 190 new jobs.
It’s the first of its kind on the CPKC line and will serve as a key hub for CPKC’s Mexico Midwest Express service, supporting two-way food trade from the U.S. into Mexico and vice versa through to Canada.
“We are building a future for food, commerce, and the world. We’re building a future for outstanding trade in America, and we are telling a positive story of trade here in the united states and here in the heart of America,” Mayor Quinton Lucas said.
The facility features on site food inspections, temperature controlled freezers and more than 100 docks to help reduce border delays.
Officials say the facility will transform the future of cold shipping, making it faster, more cost effective and better for the environment.

“Today, it’s 95% truck and its relatively inefficient. You have to stop at the border, you have to spend some time there. They open up the back of the truck, they do an inspection, they reseal the truck, you get back in line and you make your way into Mexico. That on a good day can be a day, in a very busy time it can be up to three days,” Americold CEO George Chappelle said.
Leaders say this facility in Kansas City is the first of its kind with many more to come in south Kansas City.
