Gunfire erupted at a Northern Nevada hotel and casino on Monday with multiple people wounded before police captured the alleged gunman, authorities said.
Police rushed to the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno after receiving calls for help at about 7:25 a.m. PDT, officials said.
Officers arrived in 2 1/2 minutes and they "immediately located the suspect at which time an officer involved shooting occured," according to a Reno Police Department statement.
"The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local area hospital," police added. "There is no known continuing threat to the public."
The incident began outside, near the valet area, and no one inside the casino was harmed, police said.
"Officers then located several victims of gunshot wounds and other injured parties that they began to provide first aid and medical treatment to," Reno Police Chief Kathryn Nance told reporters.
State authorities and Washoe County Sheriff's deputies also responded to the scene to help Reno police, Gov. Joe Lombardo said in a statement.
"While we wait for more information, please join Donna and me in praying for the victims and their families and for our brave first responders," said Lombardo, who was sheriff of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 2017 when 58 people were gunned down near the Mandalay Bay Hotel.
Shooter Stephen Paddock opened fire from his 32nd floor suite, slaughtering dozens of music lovers below who were attending the Route 91 Harvest Festival.
