By now, as a gearhead you know the Koenigsegg Jesko Attack is no pushover, but it might have finally met its match. After all, the Suzuki Hayabusa is a bit of a quarter mile legend itself, but when you add a supercharger for a little forced induction assistance, it becomes absolutely monstrous.
Building a Hayabusa-powered go-kart is an excellent bad idea.
The Swedish hypercar and tweaked Japanese sport bike icon faced off against each other in a recent drag race. Unfortunately, it wasn’t at a track with a prepared surface, staging tree, and other such things.
Instead, the competition was set up by British car YouTube channel carwow. You might already be familiar with their other crazy race matchups. They often like to pit an exotic car against a modified sport bike since you usually don’t see such pairing at dragstrips.
On paper, the Koenigsegg Jesko Attack seems unstoppable. The twin-turbo 5.0-liter V8 makes a wondrous 1,280-horsepower when using regular pump gas (it’s 1,600-hp on E85). That’s incredible. But making excellent use of that power is the 9-speed Koenigsegg Light Speed Transmission, which makes gear changes at almost the speed of light.
There’s one thing working against the behemoth in a drag race: its aero. The wing, splitter, and other aero elements attached to the Jesko Attack produce 1400 kg or about 3,086 lbs. of downforce. That’s great for driving on road courses, but in a contest of straight line acceleration it’s a bit of a problem.
Then there’s the Suzuki Hayabusa which has a turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine producing a wild 370-hp. Tuned professionally, the motorcycle also features a longer swing arm and carbon-fiber rear wheel, among other upgrades.
But is that enough to smoke the Koenigsegg? It’s quite the interesting matchup with a surprising conclusion.
