Two people were killed and one person is unresponsive following a boating accident involving a youth club Monday off Miami Beach, officials said.
Preliminary information indicates that a “barge struck a sailing vessel carrying six people” near Star Island, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said.
It’s believed that a group of people were on a sailboat, Miami Fire Rescue Lt. Pete Sanchez said. The Miami Yacht Club said the incident involved youth participants from the Miami Youth Sailing Foundation.
Sanchez said there were six patients, including five who are between the ages of 8 and 12 and a woman who officials believe is a camp counselor.
Authorities had earlier said that three children were hospitalized in critical condition, one child and the adult were in stable condition and the fifth child was evaluated at the scene.
The FWC is leading the investigation.
