Heavy rain triggers floods in Tennessee, killing at least 3

At least three people are dead and another is missing after flash floods engulfed southeastern Tennessee on Tuesday night, authorities said.

The deluge swamped roads and prompted rescue teams into action. One family — two adults and one child — were killed after a tree fell on their car, the Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security said in a post on social platform X.

Authorities were still searching Wednesday for a man who was swept away in the floodwaters, officials said.

Among the worst-hit areas was Chattanooga, Tenn., a low-elevation city with a population of roughly 190,000. Its airport was hit with 6.42 inches of rain Tuesday — the second wettest day in the city’s recorded history, according to the National Weather Service Office in Morristown.
