A fire appeared near Tamarack Resort, Idaho, on Tuesday night, August 12, 2025, prompting the ski resort to pause all of its on-mountain activities.
In an Instagram post shared the following morning, Tamarack announced that due to “fire activity in the surrounding area, we are taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety of our guests and staff.”
All on-mountain activities at Tamarack have been suspended for the day, including lift-served activities, cross-country trails, ziplining, and the Mid Mountain Lodge. Some parts of the ski resort remain open, though, like several restaurants and the Spa at Tamarack.

A Tamarack spokesperson confirmed that despite the fire activity in the surrounding area, “there is no immediate danger to Tamarack Resort or any structures” and that its guests and staff are safe. The spokesperson noted that the ski resort will continue working with local authorities and closely monitoring conditions.

CBS2 Idaho reported that a thunderstorm moved through the Tamarack area on Tuesday evening. According to the news report, the storm created lightning that may have caused the fire near Tamarack. The report added that the blaze could be one of Western Idaho’s first fires this season.
It isn’t Tamarack’s first brush with fire. Last September, the ski resort closed for a few days as the Lava and Boulder fires burned to the south of Tamarack.
