FBI Director Kash Patel early Thursday said 45 arrests were made in Washington, D.C., overnight after President Trump ramped up federal law enforcement presence in the nation’s capital.
“The FBI and our partners made 45 arrests – 29 immigration-related, 16 tied to the violent crime surge, and 3 firearm seizures,” Patel wrote in a social media post.
Patel said charges include possession of child sex abuse material, illegal firearms, drug trafficking, fugitive apprehensions and assault on a federal officer.
One person was also arrested for allegedly throwing a sandwich at an officer Sunday, Patel said in a separate post.
Sean Charles Dunn, 37, shouted at a group of U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents before hurling a sandwich at one, according to police.
“Why are you here? I don’t want you in my city!” Dunn reportedly yelled.
“He took a Subway sandwich … and threw it at the officer. He thought it was funny,” U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro said in a video response to the incident. “Well, he doesn’t think it’s funny today because we charged him with a felony, assault on a police officer, and we’re going to back the police to the hilt. So there, stick your Subway sandwich somewhere else.”
D.C. residents have protested the increased federal law enforcement presence in the District.
However, Trump administration officials say people who cross the line will be prosecuted.
Patel shared similar sentiments in Thursday’s statement.
“Your FBI will make DC Safe Again,” Patel said.
