What is the Longaberger basket building in Newark, Ohio?
The Longaberger basket building in Newark was once owned by the Longaberger Company and just made World Atlas' list of Nine of the Most Bizarre Landmarks in the United States.

The Longaberger Company was a basket manufacturer based in Dresden and Newark, Ohio. The famous, massive, bizarre landmark is 160 times bigger than their original handcrafted baskets made of maple wood, according to World Atlas.
Their basket building was completed in 1997 in Newark, and was the headquarters of the Longaberger Company until they moved to a different location in 2016.
Canton-area developer Steve Coon and his business partner bought the building in 2017.
Longaberger filed for bankruptcy in 2018, according to previous Columbus Dispatch reporting.
Coon had plans to eventually develop the Longaberger basket building, but those never came to fruition, the Dispatch reports. The inside and outside of the building remain unchanged from the time when Longaberger Company owned it.
The basket building remains a landmark in the Buckeye State, and locals and tourists can catch a glimpse of the iconic seven-story basket building along State Route 16 on the eastern edge of Newark.
Ohio has two basket buildings, not just one
Yes, Ohio actually has two big baskets hundreds and thousands of times the size of any person.

The second one sets the world record for the world’s largest apple basket, according to World Record Academy.
The other basket is an apple basket on the site of the original Longaberger family homestead. Located about 16 miles down route 16 in Frazeysburg, Ohio, the basket remains standing with its realistic-looking apples seemingly about to spill out of the overflowing container.
The huge basket, which is 20 feet tall, was repainted and restored in 2022.
