Barrel Roll: Fleeing Ford Ranger Gets A High Speed PIT Maneuver

If you’re thinking an old Ford Ranger sounds like a horrible vehicle to use in a police chase, you would be absolutely correct. After all, they’re not exactly fast, their handling is anything but legendary, and let’s face it, they’re not the most durable thing on the road. But the suspect in this Georgia State Patrol dashcam video seems to take none of that into consideration.

Another suspect learns his Mazda3 is also a poor choice for a getaway car.

The reason for the initial traffic stop was a simple one: the little truck was going 90 in a 70 mph zone. All this guy had to do was pull over and take the ticket. He didn’t want to because there was far more going on.

It wouldn’t surprise us to learn the guy had his foot planted to the floor as the trooper has no problem keeping up. He accelerates slowly while faking taking an exit, but it’s so obvious because the truck handles like it’s on skis.

At that point, even if you were clueless about how cars work, you’d realize the cop is keeping up no problem. And if you have a shred of intelligence, you would just pull over and give up. But this guy keeps pushing it as if by some miracle the Ranger will suddenly burst away.

But that doesn’t happen. Instead, the trooper gets into position and in no time does a PIT maneuver, sending the little truck into a high-speed barrel roll. This isn’t the kind of vehicle we would want for a dangerous situation like that.

To the shock of nobody, after this mess, the trooper suspected the driver had been drinking. When asked if that was true, out suspect reportedly said he had. It’s almost like alcohol consumption often leads to poor choices.
