  • A majority of the 67 are spoken for, Ford is now taking orders for the remaining units.

  • The 67 units is a homage to the 1967 Ford GT40 Mk that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The final wave of the production Ford GT Mk IV is coming... and then it's good-bye for good.

Modeled after the Ford GT that competed at the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Mk IV have been hand assembled by Ford GT racing partner Multimatic Motorsports at the Multimatic facility in Markham, Ontario.

Ford announced today that the third wave of what is to be a run of 67 units of the ultimate track car is now underway. And while a majority of the 67 are spoken for, Ford is now taking orders for the remaining units.

The 67 units is a homage to the 1967 Ford GT40 Mk that won Le Mans.

"Created in conjunction with our GT racing partner Multimatic Motorsports, the Mk IV boasts technology that exceeds that of most GT race cars and on-track capabilities unimaginable for the street," said Mark Rushbrook, global director, Ford Performance. "The Ford GT Mk IV finds itself perfectly placed as a collector car that will be too thrilling to be kept in the garage.

"It isn’t very often that we can turn the engineers at Ford and Multimatic loose and say ‘go for it!’ But that is the kind of freedom you get developing the Ford GT Mk IV. We can do things that the rules won’t permit for the race cars and things we can’t do for the road cars.

"Our team has put everything into producing the GT Mk IV. It will be sad to see the last one roll out of the shop but that will be tinged with happiness to know it is heading to a very happy customer."

This car is not designed to be a grocery-getter. In fact this car has some features that are beyond even what the 24 Hours of Le Mans team had at their disposal.

According to Rushbrook and Ford Performance,

• The GT Mk IV has a third generation, EcoBoost 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that is more powerful than the original race car.

• The 820+ horsepower being generated by the Roush-Yates Engines-built powerplant is also channeled through a more advanced clutch and paddle-shifted, six-speed gearbox than the Le Mans-winning drivers enjoyed.

• Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve dampers matched to the car’s more advanced suspension can be tuned by the driver from the cockpit while lapping; no need to stop for adjustments.

• The carbon fiber chassis is shared with the Ford GT and GT Mk II race cars but with a specialized upper roll cage unique to the GT Mk IV.

•Generating over 2,400 pounds of downforce at 150 mph, the Ford GT Mk IV can corner at over 3g. In fact, this final edition has lapped the same track quicker in the hands of non-professional drivers than the original Ford GT GTLM race car did with the factory race drivers behind the wheel.

Owners of the Ford GT Mk IV will also have the opportunity to participate in a private track day with car shakedowns and coaching from Ford Performance and Multimatic Motorsport's professional drivers.
