WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. — A cow made a break for freedom on Thursday after escaping a stock trailer while its owner was parked at a gas station in Johnston City.
According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, the cow was seen wandering near Interstate 57 and the Herrin Road overpass around 8:30 a.m.
Deputies responded to the rather unusual traffic hazard alongside local cattlemen to keep the cow away from the interstate.

A video posted by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office shows a man riding on a horse near the I-57 on-ramp, following the cow with various law enforcement vehicles blocking entry to the interstate.
Eventually, the cow was captured with a lasso and brought back to safety.
“Teamwork isn’t just for catching criminals; sometimes it’s for catching cows!” the Facebook post said.
