A Restomod Specialist with a Cult Following
Apart from outfitting 911s, Gunther Werks has built a reputation for turning classic Porsche sports cars into precision-engineered, high-performance machines that blend old-school character with modern capability. Known for its reimaginings of the 993-generation 911, the California-based company has produced projects such as the 400R, Turbo, and GWR, each designed with a specific performance and design philosophy.
Every Gunther Werls build starts with a stripped and restored chassis, reshaped with bespoke carbon-fiber bodywork, and fitted with engines developed in partnership with performance specialists. The company’s work has attracted a loyal following of collectors who appreciate the balance of craftsmanship, engineering, and exclusivity. Its latest project, the GWX, may be its rarest yet.

Carbon-Shod 911 in Candy Purple
The GWX begins with a fully restored 993-generation Coupe chassis, reinforced with bracing derived from the company’s Turbo program for added rigidity. Power comes from a second-generation 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six built by Rothsport, producing 440 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque.
The engine incorporates advanced sliding throttle body plates, a design that eliminates pivoting obstructions at wide-open throttle to improve airflow and response. A custom-developed drive-by-wire throttle system supports this feature, resulting in a sharper and more efficient power delivery.
The exterior is entirely unique to the GWX, featuring carbon-fiber vented front fenders, flared side skirts, rear quarter panels, a front hood, race-spec front bumper, vented rear bumper with diffuser, and a frame-mounted rear wing with decklid ram air scoop. Gunther Werks tailored the aerodynamic profile for greater downforce and stability.
Finished in an in-house-developed Candy Purple paint with silver pinstriping, the GWX also features an exposed herringbone carbon-fiber weave running down the hood, roof, and tail — a finish unavailable on other Gunther Werks models.
Inside, the cabin continues the bespoke theme with carbon bucket seats, carbon-fiber door panels, a new dash with custom gauges, and a modernized gearshift, all arranged in a minimalist, driver-focused layout.

But You Can’t Just Buy One, Even If You Can
Gunther Werks will produce only three examples of the GWX, each of which will be available only by invitation. This exclusivity makes the GWX one of the most restricted restomod programs the company has ever undertaken – surpassing Singer's penchant for exclusivity. The company has yet to announce the pricing, but comparable Gunther Werks builds often approach or exceed seven figures, depending on customer specifications and options.
Given its bespoke construction, limited run, and unique engineering elements, the GWX is aimed at a small circle of collectors seeking the rarest expression of the air-cooled Porsche 911 format. For those few on the invitation list, the GWX represents the latest and most individualized interpretation of what a reimagined 993 can be.
