ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A man has been charged with sexually exploiting a minor after taking a juvenile from Iowa to Reidsville, according to a Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office news release.
On Sunday, Rockingham County deputies were told by the Fairfield Police Department in Fairfield, Iowa, about a missing female juvenile from their jurisdiction.
Investigators with the FPD learned the juvenile had been texting with a man and that the juvenile had been picked up by the man in Fairfield and taken to Rockingham County.
The FPD then requested help in checking an address in Reidsville for the missing juvenile.
She was found by RCSO deputies at a home on Willow Street in Reidsville with 25-year-old John Michael Johnson.
RCSO detectives and the Rockingham County Department of Social Services responded and began investigating.
Johnson was interviewed and, after consultation with the Rockingham County District Attorney’s Office, was charged with felony second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and felony solicitation by computer.
Johnson was given a $850,000 secured bond.
The investigation is ongoing.
