The Kentucky State University campus remains on high alert as police continue to investigate an Aug. 17 shooting on the school's grounds.
According to a news release, no students were injured in the shooting near Young Hall. In a statement, officials from the Franklin Police Department said witnesses heard 15 to 20 gunshots after multiple occupants in a dark-colored passenger vehicle opened fire at a group walking on campus.
Two non-students were reportedly injured and transported for medical attention, but one has since been released, officials said.
Young Hall, one of the university's residential halls, was damaged during the incident along with at least one vehicle.
“Our students deserve to learn and thrive in a safe environment,” KSU President Koffi Akakpo said in a statement. “We remain fully committed to protecting our campus community and will take every step necessary to safeguard their well-being.”
Frankfort Police is continuing to investigate. Officials urge anyone with additional information to contact FPD at (502) 875-8523.
