
A 52-year-old man died after his car was hit by a truck that was attempting to avoid crashing into another vehicle in Northeast El Paso, authorities said.
A 2017 Ford F150 driven by a 49-year-old woman from Chaparral, New Mexico, was driving south about 5:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 18, in the 13100 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard in Northeast El Paso near the Texas-New Mexico stateline, El Paso Police Department spokesperson Detective Judy Oviedo wrote in a news release.
The woman swerved to avoid a crash, resulting in her losing control of her truck. The truck went into oncoming traffic and crashed into a 2016 Hyundai Elantra driven by 52-year-old Oscar Lopez, of El Paso, and a 2019 Toyota Camry driven by a 59-year-old El Paso man, the news release states.

Lopez was taken to a hospital for treatment of the injuries he suffered in the crash. He later died at the hospital.
The El Paso Police Department's Special Traffic Investigations unit continues to investigate the crash.

This is the 39th traffic-related death of 2025 compared to 41 at this same time last year, according to Police Department numbers.
