NEOSHO, Mo. (KSNW) — A Missouri couple is facing charges after a child was found left in their car.

KSNW’s sister station, KSNF in Joplin, reports that Billy Powers Junior and Staci Williams have both been charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child.

It happened Saturday at a Walmart in Neosho, Missouri, a city located southeast of Joplin.

Police were called to the store’s parking lot, where a woman reported spotting a child inside a car that was not running and had its windows rolled up. The outside temperature had reached 100 degrees at the time.

The child didn’t respond to the woman, who then opened the door and pulled her out of the hot car. The child was taken to the hospital for treatment. Powers and Williams were found inside the store by police, shopping with two other children who were reportedly barefoot.

The children were taken into police protective custody. Police say the store’s security video showed that they had only been inside the store for about 10 minutes before the girl was found unresponsive.

The couple is being held without bond.
