ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – After a murder on campus, University of New Mexico regents on Tuesday approved millions of dollars in security upgrades. Michael LaMotte, 14, was shot and killed in a dorm in July. That sparked the university to look into improving security.
UNM President Garnett Stokes said they’re looking to expand key badge access across all buildings on campus. She also mentioned looking into upgrades to the Lobo Alert system that sends emergency messages to students and faculty. The board of regents approved $2.6 million for upgrades. The funding is now awaiting approval from the New Mexico Higher Education Department and New Mexico Board of Finance.
