BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A new study shows where Louisiana ranks for reliability of electricity and water utility services compared to other U.S. states.
The study by UtilityRates.com analyzed electricity and natural gas rates and public water utility violations nationwide. Data was used from the U.S. Energy Information Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency.
Louisiana ranked as the third most unreliable for electric and public water utilities with a score of 74.85 out of 100. According to the study, the state has the highest rate of health-related water violations in the U.S.
“For every 100 public water systems, there were about 121 violations. To put that in perspective, that’s more than 50 times higher than Hawaii, which reported none at all,” representatives from UtilityRates.com said.
