(WHTM)– Some Pennsylvanians may have noticed that the colors of the lights on construction and maintenance trucks have changed.
Many Pennsylvania construction and maintenance trucks now have green and amber lights on them, but why?
This follows the passage of Act 78, which was signed into law amid safety concerns for highway workers.
PennDOT spokesperson Fritzi Schreffler said, “The main reason — increased visibility. It’s for our construction people and our maintenance people. The maintenance side of things in my mind is even more dangerous because they can be moving projects, they can be projects not covered by jersey barriers — the concrete barrier — it might just be a cone or flagger. Unfortunately, we have had our vehicles hit.”
About 80 vehicles have the new lights. Each of which is roughly $2,500, with funding coming from taxpayers in the counties where the trucks are located.
