Malik Beasley is reportedly no longer a target in a federal gambling investigation, his attorneys told ESPN on Friday.
A day before free agency was set to open in June, reports emerged that Beasley was under federal investigation as part of a gambling probe. Beasley, who was on the verge of hitting the open market, saw all his offers dry up due to that investigation.
On Friday, Beasley's attorneys Steve Haney and Mike Schachter said Beasley remains uncharged after investigators have looked into the situation for over a month. His attorneys took those investigators to task, saying the allegations had a "catastrophic consequence" on Beasley, per ESPN.
"An allegation with no charge, indictment or conviction should never have the catastrophic consequence this has caused Malik. This has literally been the opposite of the presumption of innocence."
ESPN contacted the US. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York on Friday, which gave no comment regarding Beasley's situation.
