Is Oklahoma finished with 90-degree days this year?

A respite from summer heat is on the way. According to the National Weather Service, cool and rainy weather is expected to reach Oklahoma by Monday, Aug. 25.

The front will keep temperatures low for the rest of the month. But how long will it last? Here's what the weather experts have to say.

Oklahoma City weather forecast

  • Saturday, Aug. 23: 93 degrees

  • Sunday: 91 degrees, late chance of storms north of I-40

  • Monday: 79 degrees, high chance of thunderstorms

  • Tuesday: 72 degrees, locally heavy rainfall and flooding

  • Wednesday: 74 degrees, chance of storms

  • Thursday: 79 degrees, chance of storms

Heavy rain possible Monday and Tuesday

The weather service said Oklahoma should see multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms develop and move through the state from the northwest.

The rain will begin late Sunday or early Monday morning in northern Oklahoma. Places like Woodward, Enid, Stillwater and Ponca City have the highest chance of starting the week with showers, according to the forecast.

Oklahoma City will have a 35% chance of rain on Monday.

Most locations north of Interstate 40 will have a slight risk of excessive rainfall that could lead to flooding. Some areas could see as much as three inches of rain through Tuesday.

Cooler weather continues through the week

Many areas of the state, mostly in the central and northern regions, will see the daytime high temperature stay in the 70s before the calendar turns to September.

"High temperatures will still be quite dependent on how widespread the precipitation and cloudiness is from day to day, but this looks to bring very un-August like temperatures to the area," the National Weather Service said in its forecast.

Flooding could also be a problem. While there won't be a massive wall of storms hanging out over the state, forecasters expect multiple rounds of showers and storms over several days could cause rainfall to accumulate in some areas.

Beyond next week, western and central Oklahoma has a better-than-50% chance of seeing lower temperatures and more rain than average for this time of year.
