We’ve seen a lot of examples of the Volkswagen Type 3, but this convertible has a rather unique looking body. When we first spotted this classic car for sale, we just assumed it was some sort of crazy kit car, but it appears to be something far more intriguing.
Check out the one and only Rollswagen.
While we’ve seen quite a few VW Type 3 convertibles, this one is advertised as a fastback. The ad shows it with a retractable soft top, but it mentions that a hard top is available. We wish there were pictures of that, because we can see how the rear end has more of a fastback look to it.
Fastback versions of the Type 3 were a thing from the factory, but we’re not aware of any coming with a removable top.

Plus, the front end doesn’t look anything like a VW. The tall waterfall grille flanked by four square headlights are something one would expect from a luxury brand from the same time period, not little down-to-earth Volkswagen.
Advertised as being from the 1969 model year, this classic Volkswagen has a claimed 42,000 miles on it, a manual transmission, and isn’t currently running. Considering how simple the engines and other mechanicals are on these vehicles, it makes for a great project, in our opinion.
Plus, whoever does end up with this ride will have one very unique-looking Type 3. There has to be a story behind this classic and we wonder if the seller knows what it is or if that’s something you can ferret out over time, adding to the intrigue of ownership.

Is this car interesting enough to buy and get it running again? What would you do with it?
