2016 Porsche 911 R, One of 991 Built, Emerges With Just 3,600 Miles

A Lightweight Porsche Classic

The Porsche 911 R occupies a special place in the brand's modern history. Produced in 2016 in a run of just 991 units, Porsche created the model in the spirit of the 1967 homologation special of the same name. Unlike the winged and track-oriented 911 GT3 RS it borrowed much of its hardware from, the 911 R was built as a purist's road car – lighter, simpler, and available only with a six-speed manual gearbox.

Those who had the chance to drive the car said it's one of the most rewarding driving experiences Porsche delivered in a generation, praising its raw connection, old-school delicacy, and the rare thrill of pairing a naturally aspirated flat-six with three pedals.

For Porsche enthusiasts, it quickly became one of the most desirable models of the 991 era, with demand outstripping supply almost immediately. Now, thanks to Bring a Trailer, one example has surfaced for collectors looking to secure one of these coveted cars.

Chassis #160 Listed Up For Grabs

The car currently up for auction is chassis #160 of 991, finished in GT Silver Metallic with red racing stripes and black side graphics. It features lightweight construction elements, including a magnesium roof, carbon-fiber hood, front fenders, and deck lid, as well as a retractable spoiler and model-specific aerodynamic details. A clear paint-protection film has been applied over the bodywork.

It rides on 20-inch GT3 center-lock alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubbers, newly installed in March 2025. It has carbon-ceramic brake rotors paired with yellow six- and four-piston calipers. The chassis setup shares much with the 911 GT3 of its time, including rear-axle steering and adjustable suspension, but was tuned specifically for the 911 R's road-focused character.

Inside, the cabin is trimmed in black leather with GT Silver stitching and carbon-fiber dashboard accents. Heated adaptive sport seats, Porsche Communication Management with navigation, a Bose surround-sound system, the Light Design Package, and self-dimming mirrors are included. The analog dials feature a 225-mph speedometer and a tachometer with an 8,600-rpm redline, with the digital odometer showing just 3,600 miles.

Power comes from the naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six also found in the GT3 RS, rated at 500 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque. It drives the rear wheels through a six-speed manual and limited-slip differential with Porsche Torque Vectoring. An extended-range fuel tank was specified, and recent service in March 2025 included an oil change, a new battery, serpentine belt replacement, and the aforementioned fresh tires.

A Few Days Left Before Hammer Falls

When new, the 2016 Porsche 911 R carried an MSRP of over $210,000. Unsurprisingly, this low-mileage example has already reached a bid of $333,333 at the time of writing, with three days remaining until the hammer falls. It's definitely one of the coolest Porsches to be sold this coming week.

Given the model's rarity and its reputation among collectors, it is expected that bidding will continue to rise as the deadline approaches.
