With 38 minutes remaining in the Michelin GT Challenge at Virginia International Raceway, Danny Formal was behind the wheel of the No. 45 Wayne Taylor Racing

Lamborghini GT3 EVO2 quickly caught fire, sending him off the track and into a nearby barrier. A trail of fire and smoke followed the car from the track to its stopping point as Formal quickly opened the driver's door and got out of the vehicle. Formal ran away from the growing vehicle fire and got behind a safety barrier before calling for the at-track medical team to bring him water.

Formal could be seen from the cameras to be in distress and rubbing his eyes, since the smoke, fire, and fire extinguisher agent filled his cockpit.

The IMSA broadcast was initially concerned that Formal had his visor up while racing, as many GTD drivers reportedly do. However, on a second replay of the incident, Formal is seen exiting the vehicle with his visor flipped down.

IMSA has shared that Formal is awake, alert, and being transferred to a local hospital after being first checked out at the track's medical center.

Last month, Formal and his co-driver, Trent Hindman, brought WTR their first GTD win with Lamborghini in the Chevrolet Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
