Supercharged 2025 Ford Mustang GT edges Dodge Challenger Hellcat in close 10.13-second drag race, highlighting Detroit’s enduring muscle rivalry.
At Island Dragway in Great Meadows, New Jersey, a factory-supercharged 2025 Ford Mustang GT recently squared off against a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody in a matchup that showcased the enduring rivalry between Detroit’s muscle icons. The outcome was settled in just over 10 seconds, with the Mustang edging out the Mopar by the slimmest of margins.
The race was part of a series featured by ImportRace, a YouTube channel that regularly documents high-powered clashes between American muscle and modern performance cars. This particular Mustang has developed a reputation after surprising victories earlier in the season. In May, it ran a 10.37-second quarter mile against a Corvette E-Ray and later dispatched a Corvette Z06 with a 10.39-second pass.
This latest battle completed the “Detroit Three trifecta” as the Ford turned its attention to Dodge’s premier street machine. Powered by a Ford Performance supercharger kit fitted to its 5.0-liter Coyote V8, the Mustang is estimated to produce roughly 700 horsepower. The Challenger Hellcat, depending on configuration, typically delivers 707 to 717 horsepower from its supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8.
After pre-race burnouts filled the air with tire smoke, both cars launched hard off the line. The Hellcat driver reacted more quickly, logging a 2.92-second reaction time versus the Mustang’s slower 4.34. Despite that advantage, the Ford clawed back ground with relentless acceleration. By the finish line, the Mustang clocked a 10.13-second run to the Hellcat’s 10.3 seconds, sealing the win by less than two-tenths of a second.
With the Dodge Challenger discontinued after the 2023 model year, such encounters are becoming rarer, making this latest Mustang-versus-Hellcat clash a fitting reminder of the golden age of American drag racing rivalry.
