Comedian Reggie Carroll died in a shooting on Wednesday in Southhaven, Mississippi.
Southaven police responded to a shooting in the area of Burton Lane and took one person into custody on a murder charge, the department said in a news release.
Carroll, 52, of Maryland, was found suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers and medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, but Carroll died from his injuries, the news release states.

Details about what led up to the shooting remain unclear. The Southaven Police Department and a representative for Carroll did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Monday.
"Due to this being an active investigation, there is limited information to be released," police said on Saturday. "Our thoughts are with the family of Mr. Carroll."
Carroll did stand-up comedy and toured across the country. Club Mobtown Comedy paid tribute to Carroll in an Instagram post on Saturday.
"Rest in power @comedianreggiecarroll, thank you for being one of the OGs who supported us early on," the club wrote. "The Mobtown family and the Baltimore comedy community are very saddened by this loss of one of our city’s great talents. Sending our prayers to Reggie’s family."
The investigation into his death is ongoing.
