U.S. News & World Report says these 5 high schools around Savannah among best in Georgia

There are dozens of several high schools across the Savannah area, and it's their job to get young students ready for adulthood. So who is doing the best job?

Last week, U.S. News & World Report released its list of the best high schools in America. The rankings are based on college readiness, college curriculum breadth, underserved student performance, state assessment proficiency and performance. Below is what we found, not including the South Carolina schools.

What is the best high school in the Savannah area?

1. Savannah Arts Academy in Savannah. Ranked No. 12 in Georgia.

  • AP participation rate: 94%

  • Mathematics proficiency: 35%

  • Reading proficiency: 75%

  • Science proficiency: 70%

  • Graduation rate: 97%

2. Woodville-Tompkins Technical and Career High School in Savannah. Ranked No. 73 in Georgia.

  • AP participation rate: 39%

  • Mathematics proficiency: 37%

  • Reading proficiency: 49%

  • Science proficiency: 55%

  • Graduation rate: 100%

3. Savannah Early College High School in Savannah. Ranked No. 78 in Georgia.

  • AP participation rate: 33%

  • Mathematics proficiency: 21%

  • Reading proficiency: 56%

  • Science proficiency: 76%

  • Graduation rate: 100%

4. Richmond Hill High School in Richmond Hill. Ranked No. 102 in Georgia.

  • AP participation rate: 20%

  • Mathematics proficiency: 45%

  • Reading proficiency: 59%

  • Science proficiency: 63%

  • Graduation rate: 93%

5. Islands High School in Savannah. Ranked No. 129 in Georgia.
