Texas Sen. John Coryn (R) hit his Republican primary opponent, state Attorney General Ken Paxton, after Paxton said public school classrooms not affected by a court order still have to hang the Ten Commandments up as students start school.

“Might want to brush up on the Ten Commandments, Ken,” Cornyn, who is defending his Senate seat against Paxton, posted on the social platform X after Paxton on Monday sent a letter to schools not affected by a court injunction in Texas instructing teachers to put up the Ten Commandments in classrooms by Sept. 1.

Schools are not required to purchase the posters but must put them up if donated.

Paxton has been shrouded in controversy after his wife, Texas state Sen. Angela Paxton (R), filed for divorce last month.

“Today, after 38 years of marriage, I filed for divorce on biblical grounds,” she said.

“I believe marriage is a sacred covenant and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation. But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage,” she wrote.

Ken Paxton was impeached in 2023 over corruption charges and involvement in an extramarital affair.
