Trump to meet with Indiana lawmakers amidst redistricting push

President Donald Trump is expected to attend a meeting with Indiana lawmakers in Washington today at a long-planned briefing on a range of matters delivered to other states even before the redistricting push, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told POLITICO.

The meeting — which was scheduled prior to Vice President JD Vance paying a visit earlier this month to Indianapolis to talk redistricting with Hoosier lawmakers — comes amid increasing MAGA pressure on Indiana Republicans to undertake a mid-decade map rewrite. Tuesday’s private meeting was not on his public schedule, Leavitt said.

White House Intergovernmental Affairs Director Alex Meyer has been involved in a whip effort, calling Indiana lawmakers in his personal capacity, POLITICO previously reported.

It’s unclear to what degree redistricting will consume the agenda, but a person planning to attend, who was granted anonymity to discuss the potentially sensitive meeting, told POLITICO it will almost certainly come up. Leavitt did not immediately respond to a question about how prominently it will feature.

Some Indiana Republicans have been skeptical of the president’s involvement in redistricting with state Sen. Jim Tomes telling State Affairs that he “wouldn’t go to D.C. under a court order.” Indiana House Speaker Todd Huston was expected at Tuesday’s White House meeting.
