
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Louisiana leaders react after a Wednesday morning deadly shooting at a Minneapolis Catholic church.
Two children were killed and multiple people were injured in the shooting. Reaction to the shooting came in from leaders, including President Donald Trump.
Trump wrote on X, “The White House will continue to monitor this terrible situation. Please join me in praying for everyone involved!” He ordered that all flags be flown at half-staff at the White House and all public buildings in respect for the shooting victims.
Other leaders with ties to Louisiana also offered their thoughts and prayers.
Statements from Louisiana leaders
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise said, “I am heartbroken by today’s tragic shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis. My prayers are with the students, families, and community. Grateful to law enforcement and first responders for their courage and swift action.”
Speaker Mike Johnson wrote on X, “We are heartbroken over the tragic violence that has occurred at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, and we send our gratitude to law enforcement and the first responders who are on the scene. Our prayers are with the children, families, civilians, law enforcement, and all those impacted by this evil attack.”
U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy said on Facebook, “When evil strikes children receiving communion during the first week of school, the pain is beyond words. Our hearts are with the parents, siblings, and community. There will come a time to analyze the facts, but now is a time to grieve.”
Congresswoman Julia Letlow said, “My prayers are with the students, faculty, and families affected by the horrible shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis.”
Congressman Troy A. Carter said, “Today’s shooting in Minneapolis is truly heartbreaking and devastating. No one should have to fear for their life, or their children’s lives, while praying. I am keeping the victims and their families in my prayers. We MUST do better to protect our communities from gun violence.”
