With Labor Day approaching, here’s what Oregonians need to know about the weather over the holiday weekend.
Aug. 29 is forecast to have warmer temperatures with highs between 88-92 degrees in the Willamette Valley and central Oregon. The Oregon Coast should have cooler temperatures.
Aug. 30 and Aug. 31 will be cooler in the Willamette Valley and central Oregon with temperatures forecast between 82-87 degrees.
“We're almost 10 degrees above normal on Friday, but then Saturday and Sunday, we're only one to three degrees above normal for the most part,” said Tyler Kranz, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Portland.

The temperature for most of the weekend is typical for this time of year and this is not an unusual heat event, Kranz said.
Sept. 1, Labor Day, is forecast to be slightly warmer with temperatures between 84-87 degrees.
Temperatures on Oregon Coast expected to stay cooler
The Oregon Coast is forecast to be cooler than the rest of Oregon. There will be more cloud coverage and temperatures will stay in the 60s through the weekend, Kranz said.
On Aug. 30, the north coast near Astoria has a 15% chance of rainfall in the early morning.
Sept. 1 is forecast to be slightly warmer with temperatures in the upper 60s and into the 70s.
Parts of Oregon in drought
Northwestern Oregon, the Willamette Valley and the Oregon Coast are under a severe drought. Central Oregon is under a moderate drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
“This time of year is definitely our driest time of year,” Kranz said. “It is normal to have a ton of dry weather this time of year.”

How to stay cool in Oregon over Labor Day weekend
To stay cool during the heat, Oregonians should seek inside places with air conditioning. Where air conditioning is not available, a large box fan with a cool, wet towel draped over it can help beat the heat.
Cool showers are recommended for people who are overheating.
For people recreating outside, it’s recommended to stay in the shade, drink plenty of water and take breaks.
