Frankie Muniz will be sidelined indefinitely from the NASCAR Truck Series after suffering a broken wrist from a fall off a ladder at his house.

Muniz, 39, said he was changing the batteries on a Ring camera and stood on the top step before he fell to the ground and suffered a distal radius fracture in one of his wrists.

The phrase "FML" (Frankie Muniz's Life) takes on new meaning with moments like these. I'm disappointed to share that I won’t be racing at Darlington this weekend or for the next few weeks due to a distal radius fracture. “The phrase ‘FML’ [Frankie Muniz’s Life] takes on new meaning with moments like these,” Muniz wrote. “I’m disappointed to share that I won’t be racing at Darlington this weekend or for the next few weeks due to a distal radius fracture. Yesterday I fell from the top of a ladder while changing the batteries in a Ring camera in my backyard. Note to self: heed the ladder warning that says ‘Do not sit or stand on top step.’ In hindsight, a taller ladder would have been smarter. While I’m gutted to miss the races, I’m grateful it wasn’t worse. I feel for my team, who’ve poured their hearts into this season, and I’m thankful for Ford Performance and their unwavering support. The doctor estimates a 6-8 week recovery, so I’ll be back in the driver’s seat as soon as I’m cleared.”

His Reaume Brothers Racing team said that Muniz would be replaced by Mason Maggio at Darlington Speedway on Saturday. There are seven races left in the Truck Series season and the final race is on Oct. 31 at Phoenix. Based on Muniz's recovery timeline, he could return for the final three races of the season.

The “Malcolm in the Middle” star is in his first full-time season of Truck Series competition after racing in NASCAR’s ARCA Series in 2023. The Truck Series is NASCAR’s third-tier series behind the Cup Series and Xfinity Series.

Muniz is currently 24th in the points series standings through the first 18 races of the season. He ranks last among 23 drivers competing full-time in the series and has one top-10 finish. That came in the first race of the season at Daytona where Muniz finished 10th. Since then, his best finish is a 14th at Michigan and he has finished inside the top 20 one other time with four lead-lap finishes.

Before getting a full-time ride at RBR in 2025, Muniz raced four times in the Truck Series and twice in the Xfinity Series in 2024. He failed to finish both of those Xfinity Series races and failed to qualify for a third at Portland.
