Driver Involved In Car Crash Was Steering With Vice Grips

We’ve seen people do some weird things with cars, but using vice grips instead of a steering wheel is a new one for us. First responders in Oklahoma City were also shocked when they saw the sketchy setup after the driver of the Chevy Silverado missing a steering wheel was involved in a multi-car crash.

Watch a parked car instantly turn into a fireball.

In an even stranger twist, the Silverado driver wasn’t at fault in the collision. In other words, the guy driving that truck was able to successfully steer it enough to not cause a crash. We’re certainly not endorsing using vice grips on your steering column instead of a proper steering wheel.

After all, driving that way had to take a lot of effort since a wheel is larger and easier to grip. We have trouble believing sooner or later this setup wouldn’t have resulted in tragedy anyway.

That was the point of Oklahoma City Fire Department sharing the sketchy setup, warning people that this sort of thing is dangerous. The message is apparently desperately necessary as some tried arguing that there’s nothing wrong with steering your truck using a pair of vice grips.

While some people on Facebook took issue with the government agency supposedly shaming the unnamed Chevy Silverado driver, others made it clear they think there’s no shame in doing that sort of thing.

Some argued the guy was just “a redneck in a Chevrolet” and so it was no big deal. Others joked the guy must be fat and needed the extra space for his big belly. But still others defended the questionable vehicle hack, saying he must have been driving somewhere to get it fixed.

It’s almost like people have never heard of a tow truck, the thing you’re supposed to call to transport your vehicle when it’s not safe to drive. Surely, installing a new steering wheel on this Silverado wasn’t that expensive.

We also can’t understand how anyone would think steering your vehicle using a pair of vice grips is a good idea. They’re only intended for holding suspension components or your side mirror in place (that’s a joke, just to clarify).
