Aston Martin To Dump Its F1 Team And Go Private

We live in chaotic times, so hearing that Aston Martin is going to dump its F1 team and revert to private ownership is believable. It’s not clear who will invest in the Formula One team, but we assume it will continue to be viable, perhaps with another automaker stepping in to save the day.

Lewis Hamilton struggles with Ferrari’s tweaks.

Multiple reports confirm that Aston Martin is going to divest from the F1 team in the third quarter of 2025. The automaker reportedly will receive £110 million for its minority stake. The identity of the future buyer(s) of that stake hasn’t been revealed and details of the transaction are still being hammered out.

But this plan of pulling out of Formula One and taking the automaker private is apparently being heavily considered, as reported by City AM. It wouldn’t be a move just to shake things up, but instead Aston Martin would enjoy some market benefits from pulling back and going private.

Among them would be streamlining costs at a time when everything from inflation to tariffs has been whittling away at the British luxury automaker’s bottom line. Even more significant, the brand has been struggling in China, something other foreign luxury brands have experienced recently.

Plus, the report mentions Aston Martin would “improve agility” so it could make product decisions faster.

It even suggests “long-term partners” might then want to team up with the brand. We’re not sure if that means other automakers, companies outside the auto industry, or something else.

Aston Martin has only been publicly listed since October 2018. We supposed the company could say it gave the arrangement a good seven years before pulling the plug, if it ends up going through with the possible plan to privatize its ownership again.
