There's a new budget-friendly airline coming to East Tennessee.
Breeze Airways is coming to the Tri-Cities Airport in Blountville with nonstop flights to Orlando starting Dec 12. Travelers can fly the route on Mondays and Fridays, according to a Tri-Cities Airport press release.
A second route from the Tri-Cities Airport to Washington, D.C., will take flight on Dec. 15. After, the route will fly every Monday and Friday.
This is the first flight Breeze Airways has offered from East Tennessee, and Tri-Cities Airport Authority President and CEO Gene Cossey called it a "major milestone" in expanding the airport's reach and flight offerings.
“Bringing a new airline to TRI is the result of years of work, strong partnerships and steady support from travelers across the region," Cossey said. "We are excited to bring Breeze Airways into our partnership and look forward to years of success."
The news of Breeze Airways' two new East Tennessee flights comes just months after Knoxville's McGhee Tyson Airport expanded its service routes in May.
The Knoxville airport launched an Allegiant Air flight to Gulf Shores, Alabama, on May 21.
The airport also announced new routes to Memphis and Key West. The flight from Knoxville to Memphis will launch in September and the nonstop trip to Key West will begin in October.
What is Breeze Airways?
Breeze Airways is a lower-cost, U.S.-based airline company that launched in 2021.
The company's mission is to provide efficient and affordable flights between secondary airports, according to Breeze's website. Breeze Airways was founded by David Neeleman, who previously founded JetBlue and more.
Breeze Airways flies to more than 60 airports across the nation, including Memphis, according to the company.
How far is the Tri-Cities Airport from Knoxville?
The Tri-Cities Airport is located in Blountville, Tennessee, about an hour and a half drive away from downtown Knoxville. The airport is 100 miles from the Scruffy City.
