Thirteen days after his accident during the Muckleshoot Casino Resort NHRA Northwest Nationals, in which he experienced five Gs as he hit the Pacific Raceways guard wall at about 150 mph, Pro Stock Motorcycle racer Chris Bostick was rushed to the emergency room at Sturgis, S.D., Saturday.

Bostick was rushed to Monument Health Hospital at Sturgis late Friday night/early Saturday morning after experiencing severe gastrointestinal bleeding, which doctors have determined is related to injuries sustained July 20 during eliminations at Seattle.

Medical personnel conducted a series of diagnostic tests, including a CAT scan, and doctors at Monument recommended immediate transfer to a larger facility at Rapid City, S.D. However, Bostick, who lives in the Nashville area at Mount Juliet, opted to return home to be admitted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.

According to a post on his Facebook page, he “remains in stable condition and is prioritizing his recovery.”

The post said Bostick began experiencing troubling symptoms Friday afternoon and immediately contacted his W.A.R. (White Alligator Racing) team crew chief Tim Kulungian. Already back at the organization’s race shop in the Birmingham, Ala., suburbs preparing for Bostick’s next Mission Foods Drag Racing Series appearance, Kulungian reviewed the onboard data from the Seattle event and confirmed a side impact of just a little more than five Gs.

The crash data revealed that the motorcycle’s bodywork didn’t make direct contact with the wall. The left side of Bostick’s body did, as he struggled simultaneously to adjust his helmet to regain vision and to stay on board the bike. The violent jolt caused the bike’s bodywork to shift significantly. Bostick said he was all right and returned for the next round of racing that day on a back-up motorcycle.

Bostick was visiting friends at the 85th Sturgis Rally this weekend. He was scheduled to return to NHRA competition Aug. 29-Sept. 1 at the Cornwell Tools U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis.
