ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A New Mexico man is behind bars Saturday night after police say he tried to ram officers with his truck while driving drunk. Officers responded to a northeast Albuquerque home after a neighbor reported that 48-year-old Dustin Smith damaged their window and security camera.

According to the criminal complaint, when police arrived, Smith sped directly towards officers in a white truck. That’s when he got out of his car, refused commands, and charged at officers.

Police say they believed Smith had a knife and shot him with a projectile. APD later revealed that it was a key in his hands.

Smith is facing 12 charges.
