ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico is on a mission to help students get the school supplies they need tos ucceed this upcoming semester. More than 25 businesses helped kids get ready for school with free backpacks, shoes, no-cost vaccines, and even haircuts.
City of Albuquerque prepares to give away 3,000 free backpacks of school supplies
Event coordinators say Saturday’s event was about removing the costs lower-income kids face when preparing for school. “I think it’s really helpful because people who can’t afford stuff get free stuff, so I’m very grateful for it and I’m thankful for everything,” says student Andy Brown.
Organizers say the center is open year-round.
