While the Amish have been expanding southward and settling in new places, Louisiana presents unique challenges that make it an unlikely location for Old Order Amish communities, says Amish 365.

Currently, there are also no active Amish churches in Louisiana, making it one of the few Southern U.S. states without an established Amish presence.

There are no large, well-known Amish communities in Louisiana, however, Amish individuals do live and work within the state, says Amish 365.

Louisiana's Amish population is not part of a recognized, established Amish settlement or community, as the Amish are more concentrated in other parts of the U.S., with the largest communities in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana.

Although, Amish individuals in Louisiana have aided in construction or rebuilding efforts, including those after Hurricane Ida. The Amish have been involved in rebuilding efforts in areas like Golden Meadow and Lake Charles, often partnering with other groups like the Mennonite Disaster Service, WWNO reported.

Louisiana is home to Mennonite communities, particularly in the DeRidder and Transylvania areas. These communities are often associated with the Church of God in Christ, having established congregations and schools within the state.

While mennonites share some similarities with the Amish, Mennonites typically utilize modern conveniences, which sets them apart from the more traditional Amish communities.

Are there Amish stores and shops in Louisiana?

There are a number of Amish-owned or affiliated businesses in Louisiana, especially in the Lake Charles and Baton Rouge areas. These businesses often focus on selling custom-made furniture and other goods that are sourced from Amish builders and artisans.

Amish businesses may not always advertise themselves as such, and may focus on in-person sales within their communities. Some Amish businesses in Louisiana include:
