KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The man who died when the roof of a Kansas City Family Dollar collapsed has been identified – and his wife has filed a lawsuit against the corporation.
The Kansas City Police Department said Larry D. Banks, 69, was killed in the collapse near West 37th Street and Broadway Boulevard.

Banks’ wife on Monday filed a lawsuit against Family Dollar and the building owner.
The lawsuit names Arthur Fels Company, Family Dollar Stores of Missouri, LLC and Family Dollar, Inc.
The lawsuit claims the defendants knew that the roof was at risk of collapsing and the building was not structurally sound.
According to the lawsuit, the corner of the roof was visibly sagging for at least two days prior to the deadly collapse. A store employee had also made complaints to the landlords about the roof for at least a week before it collapsed, the lawsuit states.

Several other people were injured in the collapse.
Last week, a separate lawsuit was filed against Family Dollar by a woman who was injured in the collapse.
The investigation is ongoing; inspectors with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) have joined the investigation.
