In Louisiana, off-road vehicles such as three-wheelers, four-wheelers or other all-terrain vehicles, that are not specifically designated for road use, may travel on the shoulders of all public roads and highways, except interstate highways, according to Louisiana State Legislature.
The law stipulates that ATVs can operate on public road shoulders for farm-related activities within a five mile radius of a farm, and the operator must posses a valid Class "E" driver's license, as well as carry a copy of the motor vehicle registration, says Louisiana State Legislature.
Is it legal to drive golf carts on public roads in Louisiana?

The operation of golf carts on public roads or streets in Louisiana is prohibited, except if a parish or municipality has designated a street or road for golf cart use and appropriate signage is posted indicating the authorization of such operation, says Louisiana State Legislature.
A golf cart may also be used to cross a part of a state highway where a golf course is located on both sides of the state highway if the Department of Transportation and Development has issued a permit for such crossing.
Additionally, a golf cart operated on a parish road or municipal street shall be equipped with efficient brakes, a reliable steering apparatus, safe tires, a rearview mirror and red reflectorized warning devices in both the front and rear of the vehicle, as well as headlamps, front and rear turn signal lamps, tail lamps and brake lamps, according to Louisiana State Legislature.
Is it legal to drive side-by-sides on public roads in Louisiana?
In Louisiana, driving side-by-sides (UTVs) on public roads is typically not permitted, unless the road has been designated for such use by a parish or municipality. Although, UTVs are allowed to cross public roads in order to access off-road areas.
In order to drive a UTV on designated public roads in Louisiana, it must be registered with the Office of Motor Vehicles and display the required decal, as well as meet equipment requirements such as obtaining headlamps, signal lamps, tail lamps and mirrors, says Justia Law.
