A Powerball player in Washington won $100,000, just missing the $429 million jackpot, lottery officials say.
The ticket matched four winning numbers and the Powerball and the buyer had paid for the Power Play multiplier in the drawing Monday, Aug. 4, the Washington Lottery said.
The lucky ticket was sold at a Chevron gas station in Lake Stevens, which is about a 35-mile drive northeast from Seattle, lottery officials told McClatchy News in an email.
Another Washington player won $50,000. That ticket was sold at a Fred Meyer store in Vancouver, which is about a 10-mile drive north from Portland.
A ticket sold in Texas won $2 million and tickets sold in Pennsylvania and Vermont won $1 million each.
The winning numbers were 8, 9, 19, 31 and 38 with a Powerball of 21. The Power Play multiplier was 2x.
Powerball jackpot rises
Nobody won the grand prize, which rises to an estimated $449 million, with a cash value of about $203.9 million, for the next drawing Wednesday, Aug. 6, the national Powerball site said.
More than 515,000 other Powerball tickets sold in the United States also won prizes ranging from $4 to $100,000, the lottery said.
The Powerball jackpot was last won May 31, when a California player hit the $204.5 million grand prize.
What to know about Powerball

Tickets can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.
If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
