CHICAGO — The Illinois State Police are mourning the loss of K-9 Bane, who passed away on Tuesday at the age of eight.

Bane was the partner of Trooper Carrie Arvidson and had recently retired after serving in law enforcement for more than seven years.

Bane was officially retired on July 10 after developing a rare neuromuscular condition. He had recently undergone a life-saving operation.

He began his service in May 2018 after completing Basic Canine School Class 77. During his career, he participated in 117 free-air sniffs and deployments, including 13 area searches, 12 article searches and seven tracks.

Bane’s work led to the seizure of:

  • Over 350,000 grams of cocaine

  • Over 95,000 grams of fentanyl

  • Over 185,000 grams of cannabis

  • Various other narcotics and controlled substances

  • $3.3 million

  • 36 firearms

  • Two stolen vehicles

Bane was known for wearing Rex Specs to protect his eyes due to a visual impairment. Despite the condition, he remained a notable member of the ISP Canine Program.

According to the Illinois State Police, Bane’s contributions had a department-wide impact, supporting not only the Division of Patrol but other divisions as well.

The ISP extended their thoughts to Trooper Arvidson and those who worked alongside Bane throughout his career.
