
OLATHE, Kan. — The son of Olathe Mayor John Bacon, died in a motorcycle crash, Olathe City Council officials confirmed Tuesday evening.
Brett Bacon, 38, passed away following a motorcycle crash in Sturgis, South Dakota, according to Olathe Mayor Pro Tem Marge Vogt, who acknowledged the mayor’s absence at Tuesday’s city council meeting.

“You may notice that Mayor Bacon is not with us tonight,” said Vogt. “He’s with his family right now, following the passing of his son Brett in a traffic accident this weekend.”
Following remarks and a prayer from Vogt, city council members and those in attendance joined in on a moment of silence.

“We are deeply saddened by this unimaginable event. Our collective thoughts and prayers are with the Bacon family.”
Vogt also stated that Mayor Bacon shared how appreciative he is for the outpouring of love and support from community members during this time.
